Social Networking in Library

(This post is a response to Gary's Investigative Exercise 5 Social Networking )

This is a changing world.  Internet and the related new technologies have change the way people live.  In the library industry, it is a trend to use these new technologies such as social networking in library's services.  The reasons are as following:

  • Social networking is popular life style for the Y Generation.  In order to provide better services to the Y Generation, library need to participate on social networking sites;
  • Using social networking sites, the library can find another cost-efficient way to market and promote its services;
  • Social networking is a multi-way communication model which enable the information be broadcasted to a wide range of people in very short time.
(I found a librarian's blog - http://socialnetworkinglibrarian.com/ which contains very interesting and insightful topics on the application of new technologies in library)

  1. Just like your last blog the amount of information you have gathered and shared I find quite frightening, especially as I know how easy it seems to you and how difficult and time consuming it is for me. I can almost imagine your family feeling rested now and worried about when you do have that time for them it will be all go. Its been great and you have been very generous with your patients towards me. You are what libraries of the future want and need. Well Done Mate.
