Written Assessment Practice
<!--[if !supportLists]-->1. <!--[endif]-->Provide an initial analysis of your topic including a breakdown of its aspects.
Aspect One: detailed information about the history of the wool industry in Australia;
Aspect Two: recent information about the breeds of sheep used in the Australian wool industry;
Aspect Three: statistics about wool production (no older than 2002);
Aspect Four: information about John Macarthur, the prominent in the early Australian wool industry.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->2. <!--[endif]-->Suggest at least four possible sources you will search to find information on your topic in relation to the needs of your client. Give a brief explanation of why you chose each source and a description of what you hope to find using this source.
A: I will go to SLNSW’s catalogue. The reason I use SLNSW’s catalogue is because it contains a large amount of monographs with various topics. By searching the SLNSW’s catalogue I will locate relevant monographs with detailed information about Australian’s wool industry. From the catalogue I also might search biography of John Macarthur.
B: I will also go to SLNSW’s online database and search the SAGE database via INFORMIT. The reason I use SAGE (Science And Geography Education) database is because it is a bibliographic database that indexes popular journals on a broad range of subjects including agriculture, Geography and physics. Through the SAGE I hope I can find some journal articles with recent information about the breeds of sheep used in Australian wool industry.
C: I will also use specialised statistical source from LIS Internet sources to search the information for the client. The statistical source I will use is Australian Bureau of Statistics online. The reason I sue ABS online is because it is Australian government website and it provides detailed statistical information on Australia. From ABS’s website I will located relevant statistics data about wool production (no older than 2002).
D: I will also use the specialised reference source – biographical source to locate information for the client. The specialised biographical sources I would use are from LIS Internet sources. I will use at least three different online biographical sources to find relevant biographical information about John Macarthur, the prominent in the early Australian wool industry. The reason I use the specialised biographical sources is that these sources provide precise information which can be quickly and concisely located from these sources.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->A) <!--[endif]-->A brief description of your search strategy.(3 marks) You must include field names and search terms.
My strategy is to search relevant subjects for my topic in SAGE:
SUBJECT=(breed*) AND SUBJECT=(sheep) (2008-2011)
In this search strategy I used Boolean operator (AND) and truncation (*) to construct the search in order to locate more relevant information with my search topic.
Because the information the client needed is “recent information”, I also limited the date range as 2008-2011 to find more recent articles.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->B) <!--[endif]-->Answer or brief description of information provided by source (2 marks)
With the query term: SUBJECT=(breed*) AND SUBJECT=(sheep) (2008-2011) there are 63 results are found. Almost all of the results contain a subject field “sheep breading”. When I further narrowed the article publishing year to 2011-2011, there are 7 results.
