Just try this page: https://www.google.com/history/  (login if you need).  You see what?  YES!!! every single step you take is recorded in google's search history.  You may have secret to your partner, but you can't have secret to Google!!!

Social Bookmarking for Libraries

(This post is a response to Gary's Investigative Exercise 6 Social Bookmarking )

State Library of Tasmania doesn't apply its own membership database in the reader's review function.  Instead, the data of its review system is provided by LibraryThing.   It means that if a member of State Library of Tasmania wants to submit a review for a book, he/she has to be redirected to LibraryThing's website and has to register a new membership of LibraryThing.  The advantage of this system is that the State Library can use the hugh data source of LibraryThing to connecting with its own catalogue database.  But the bad side of it is that if the user wants to review a book he/she has no choice but to register a new account in LibraryThing. 

Social Networking in Library

This is a changing world.  Internet and the related new technologies have change the way people live.  In the library industry, it is a trend to use these new technologies such as social networking in library's services.  The reasons are as following:

• Social networking is popular life style for the Y Generation.  In order to provide better services to the Y Generation, library need to participate on social networking sites;
• Using social networking sites, the library can find another cost-efficient way to market and promote its services;

Book Lust with Nancy Pearl

Nancy Pearl (born January 12, 1945) is an American librarian, best-selling author, literary critic and was, until August 2004, the Executive Director of the Washington Center for the Book at Seattle Public Library.[1] Her prolific reading and her knowledge of books and literature first made her locally famous in Seattle, Washington, where she regularly appears on public radio recommending books. She achieved broader fame with Book Lust, her 2003 guide to good reading (source: wikipedia.org).

wAkE the dEAd @ Ultimo TAFE Library

SI Ultimo Library's blog is a window to broadcast latest news about the library's services and resources.  It also contains useful links, news and tips to keep the studnets up to date in their subject area.


After the Hallowenn the blog updated a post called "Halloween @ Ultimo TAFE Library".  It introduced the library's Halloween event and also the students who won the Halloween Costume Making Competition.  It also contains a picture slide show which I noticed was made by PictureTrail.  It is a very simple way to create cool effect slideshows with fancy transitions, shapes and styles.  The only thing you need to do is to choose the template and upload your pictures and the system will generate a slideshow flash file automatically.
